MILAN, Aug 12 (Reuters) - Italy's biggest oil and gas group Eni (ENI.MI: Quote, Profile, Research) will explore and develop oil and gas resources in Democratic Republic of Congo as it aims to boost its activities in sub-Saharan Africa, the company said on Wednesday.
Under a strategic cooperation agreement signed with Kinshasa government, Eni will conduct studies to develop conventional and non-conventional hydrocarbons, evaluate gas reserves in the eastern parts of the country, it said in a statement.
Eni said it will also take part in industrial modernisation projects and training of local stuff as well as carry out social projects in the country.
Eni produces 450,000 barrels per day of oil equivalent in the sub-Saharan Africa where it is present in Nigeria, Gabon, Congo Republic, Angola and Mozambique. (Reporting by Svetlana Kovalyova; editing by James Jukwey)
