Security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have arrested several people blamed for killing dozens and displacing thousands more in last month's tribal conflict.
A government spokesman said the arrests were made in Dongo in the country's northwest on Saturday.
“About 100 young people carrying guns and knives have been detained and disarmed,” the AFP news agency quoted him as saying on Sunday.
Police sources say they faced resistance while making arrests, but no one was hurt.
“There was an attempt to resist and shots were fired, but there were no victims,” the government spokesman added.
On October 30, fighting between the Enyele and Boba tribes over farming and fishing rights in DR Congo's Equateur Province displaced thousands of people.
About 60 people were killed and about 40 injured in the conflict last month.
The two tribes have been in conflict for years over control of a lake in the Dongo area, where there has been an upsurge in attacks over the past few weeks.
The UN refugee agency says 16,000 people have fled the conflict to the neighboring Republic of Congo.
